Witcher 3 Remaster Draws Backlash Over Brighter Lighting

PC players can turn off a Bloom setting to restore contrast, console users cannot revert the update, leaving many to expect developer patches.

Overview

  • The free Remastered upgrade, released Sept. 29, 2026, added path tracing, updated HDR and other visual overhauls that reviewers and many players praised.
  • Within hours players noted the game looks noticeably brighter and sometimes washed out, a change traced largely to new lighting, HDR tweaks and default Bloom.
  • PC users found a Bloom toggle that reduces the brighter, flattened look, but console players receive the update automatically and have no simple way to roll back or toggle Bloom.
  • Users have reported other platform-specific problems, including graphical glitches on AMD PCs, blurry Switch 2 handheld visuals, odd audio mixes, and lower performance on older consoles.
  • CD Projekt Red has told reporters there are 'no updates yet' on visual adjustments, prompting expectations of patches and possible community mods if fixes do not arrive quickly.
