Wisconsin Republicans Push New Legislative Maps to Avoid Court-Ordered Redistricting

Gov. Tony Evers Pledges to Reject Maps, Accuses GOP of Gerrymandering

Republican legislators in Wisconsin have pushed new legislative maps through the Republican-controlled state senate in an attempt to avoid the state Supreme Court's ordered redistricting.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court last month tossed the current Republican-drawn district boundaries as unconstitutional and ordered new maps.
Republican Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu said that the new maps were the same as what Democratic Gov. Tony Evers proposed, but with fewer incumbent lawmakers having to face one another in November.
Gov. Tony Evers has pledged to reject the maps passed by Republicans, arguing that moving legislative district lines to favor GOP incumbents is just more gerrymandering.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court said it would defer to the Legislature if it could pass maps that Evers would sign into law.
