Michael Raymond Popp, 60, was charged with first-degree murder in the 1985 killing of Terry Dolowy.
Dolowy, a 24-year-old senior at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, went missing on February 14, 1985.
Her decapitated and burning body was discovered days later in a roadside culvert in Vernon County, Wisconsin.
DNA evidence collected in January 2023 matched material found during Dolowy's autopsy, leading to Popp's arrest.
Popp initially claimed Dolowy was a casual acquaintance but later admitted to an affair after being confronted with the DNA evidence.
