Wisconsin In‑Person Early Voting Opens Oct. 20

Varying local hours could affect turnout in this competitive state.

Overview

  • In‑person absentee voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 20 and continues through Sunday, Nov. 1 with each city, town and village setting its own hours and locations.
  • Milwaukee will offer 11 early voting sites and residents may use any city location regardless of home address.
  • Voters must present an acceptable photo ID at early voting sites, examples include a Wisconsin driver’s license, state ID, U.S. passport, and certain military, tribal or college IDs.
  • Most voters must request a mailed absentee ballot by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29 and completed mailed ballots must be received by municipal election officials by 8 p.m. on Election Day; a postmark alone does not meet the deadline.
  • As of the Monday before early voting, 173,164 absentee ballots had been returned of 364,888 requested and the Wisconsin Elections Commission says it expects roughly 2.6 million voters, more than 30,000 poll workers and over 3,600 polling places for the Nov. 3 election.
