Winthrop Police Lieutenant Charged with Child Rape

James Anthony Feeley Allegedly Confessed to Crimes, Now on Administrative Leave

James Anthony Feeley, a Winthrop police lieutenant, has been charged with one count of aggravated rape of a child and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
Feeley allegedly confessed to the crimes on Christmas night at his parents' gravesite, while contemplating suicide.
Feeley was arrested and pleaded not guilty to all charges. He has been placed on administrative leave from the Winthrop Police Department.
The alleged assaults took place over the past year and Feeley was arrested after an investigation by State Police detectives assigned to the Suffolk district attorney’s office.
Feeley is due back in court on January 29, 2024.
