Winter Storm to Snarl Southern Colorado Commutes Tonight and Friday Morning

  • Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning for parts of southern Colorado, including Teller and northern El Paso counties, the Wet Mountains, Huerfano and Las Animas counties, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and Colorado Springs, with alerts also posted for Baca County.
  • Snow will become widespread late Thursday and continue into Friday morning, with significant slowdowns expected on I-25 between Colorado Springs, Monument, and Castle Rock, as well as along Ute Pass toward Woodland Park.
  • The most hazardous window runs overnight into the Friday morning drive, when gusty winds begin around 5–6 a.m., especially over the Palmer Divide, creating blowing snow and poor visibility.
  • Accumulations are forecast at 3–7 inches in the Pikes Peak Region and 4–8 inches over Monument Hill, with higher totals in the mountains and potential localized enhancement in narrow bands.
  • Snow tapers by early Friday afternoon as temperatures hold below freezing, followed by clearing skies and a rebound into the 40s over the weekend.
