  • An early winter storm is approaching the Sierra Nevada, with advisories issued along the California-Nevada line.
  • The storm could bring more than a foot of snow to the upper elevations of the Sierra and winds gusting up to 100 mph over ridgetops.
  • Advisories are in effect from 4 pm Saturday through 4 am Sunday, stretching from the Lake Tahoe area near Reno to south of Yosemite National Park, including Mammoth Lakes, California.
  • Three to 8 inches of snow is expected above elevations of 6,500 feet, with as much as 14 inches above 8,000 feet.
  • Strong winds could cause tree damage, blowing snow and hazardous boating conditions on Lake Tahoe with waves 2 to 4 feet high.
