Overview
- Eligibility returns for around nine million pensioners with taxable incomes up to £35,000 after last year’s cutback.
- Payments of £100 to £300 depend on age and household circumstances, based on the qualifying week of 15–21 September 2025.
- Most eligible people will be paid automatically in November or December 2025, while those over the £35,000 threshold must repay via the tax system unless they opt out.
- Pensioners who have never had a Winter Fuel Payment or who deferred their State Pension must claim by post from 15 September or by phone from 13 October, with a deadline of 31 March 2026.
- Claimants should have their National Insurance number, bank details and marital or civil partnership date ready, and should note exclusions for certain care home or hospital stays and Scotland’s separate scheme.
