Winter Alerts Linger in Southern Colorado as Snow Tapers and Blowing Snow Cuts Visibility

Morning travel remains slick before gradual improvement through the afternoon.

Overview

  • National Weather Service winter storm warnings and advisories remain in effect with staggered expirations, including around 11 a.m. for Woodland Park and Tri-Lakes, 2 p.m. for Colorado Springs and Pueblo, and 5 p.m. in parts of the southern plains and mountain zones.
  • Snow ends from north to south through the day, leaving snow-covered or icy roads for the morning commute before conditions improve with daylight and plowing.
  • Northerly to NNE winds around 20 mph with gusts up to 35–40 mph are producing blowing snow and periods of low visibility, especially across the plains and exposed foothill areas.
  • Colorado Springs remains under a winter storm warning until 2 p.m., Pueblo holds a winter weather advisory until 2 p.m., and Walsenburg and Trinidad stay under warnings until 5 p.m. with snow lingering into the early to mid-afternoon.
  • Mountain areas including the Wet Mountains and Spanish Peaks hold warnings until 5 p.m., with the Sangre de Cristo Range and Wet Mountain Valley under advisories until 5 p.m., and a very cold Saturday morning precedes a sunnier, milder weekend.
