Winnipeg Woman Killed in Head-On Collision on Highway 16

A 50-year-old woman died after an SUV crossed the center line near Portage la Prairie; visibility is suspected as a contributing factor.

The fatal crash occurred Monday evening near the community of Macdonald, northwest of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
A southbound SUV driven by a 47-year-old Winnipeg man veered across the center line and collided head-on with the victim's northbound vehicle.
The 50-year-old Winnipeg woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male driver was hospitalized for his injuries.
RCMP have indicated that poor visibility may have contributed to the crash and are continuing their investigation with the help of a forensic collision reconstructionist.
Emergency responders, including a Manitoba First Nations Police officer, arrived on the scene shortly after the incident was discovered.
