Overview
- Andy McDonald, 61, was wing foiling near the Margaret River Bombie/Boat Ramps on Monday afternoon when a shark struck his board and dragged him under.
- He says he fell onto the animal, punched it, then used his inflatable sail for buoyancy as a friend helped him back to shore, leaving him uninjured.
- Swellnet surf-cam footage captured his board being pulled under with heavy splashing, and photos show a large bite with a section missing.
- Based on an estimated bite diameter of roughly 35–38 centimetres, McDonald and onlookers believe the shark was a juvenile great white about 3 to 3.5 metres long.
- Western Australia’s Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development issued a warning for Prevelly, and ABC reports it is the 18th shark encounter nationwide this year.
