Winds Ease Delhi Smog, Pushing AQI Down to 'Very Poor' After Three 'Severe' Days

Forecasters warn the brief respite will give way to very poor to severe air in the coming days.

Overview

  • CPCB data showed the AQI at 395 at 9 a.m. Friday with a 24‑hour average of 387, improving from 404 a day earlier.
  • Skymet reported wind speeds of about 14–15 km/h that helped disperse pollutants compared with lighter winds the previous day.
  • DSS estimated stubble-burning’s share fell to 8.54% on Friday from 12% Thursday, with forecasts indicating a rise to roughly 16.3% on Saturday.
  • Despite the citywide improvement, 15 of 39 monitoring stations still registered 'severe' air, with Wazirpur, Bawana and Mundka among the worst.
  • DSS attributed the largest identified source share to transport emissions at about 19.8%, as AQEWS projected overall air quality to stay in the very poor to severe range through next week.
