Windows 11 23H2 Support Ends Nov. 11 as Microsoft Blocks 24H2/25H2 on PCs With Duplicate SIDs

Administrators should run Sysprep with SID audits to restore update eligibility before moving devices to newer releases.

Overview

  • Microsoft delivers the final updates for Windows 11 23H2 on November 11, 2025, after which Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations and SE no longer receive patches.
  • Upgrading to Windows 11 24H2 retains support until October 13, 2026, while 25H2 is supported until October 12, 2027.
  • Devices with duplicated Windows security identifiers are blocked from installing 24H2 and 25H2, a restriction first flagged by Neowin and not explicitly announced by Microsoft.
  • Microsoft documented October authentication failures on systems with duplicate SIDs, including sign‑in errors, incorrect device IDs and unreliable security logs.
  • Microsoft recommends Sysprep to generate unique SIDs and suggests using Sysinternals PsGetsid.exe to check for duplication, which is common on cloned deployments.
