Windows 10 ESU Sign-Up Lags in Europe as Microsoft Adds Trade-In Link

Microsoft says the enrollment control will be available to everyone by October 14, 2025.

Overview

  • Windows 10 reaches the end of regular support on October 14, 2025, with Extended Security Updates available through October 13, 2026.
  • The activation option for ESU is rolling out regionally and remains missing for many users in Europe, including Germany.
  • Free enrollment requires a Microsoft account plus either Windows Backup/OneDrive syncing or redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, while a paid option costs about €31.49.
  • Windows Update now surfaces an "Enroll now" control along with a link to a Microsoft Store trade-in or recycling program that works with Teladvance in the U.S., with regional partners planned elsewhere.
  • October delivers the final regular patches; systems are not instantly insecure, but without ESU they will stop receiving security updates starting in November.
