Wim Vandekeybus Brings Void Back to Mexico for Two-Night Run at Teatro Julio Castillo

The piece builds character portraits from dancers’ personal memories to probe what society labels as normal.

Overview

  • Última Vez returns to Mexico after roughly a decade with a limited engagement in Mexico City.
  • Void centers marginalized figures who depart from social norms, inviting audiences to consider the universality of the so‑called anormal.
  • The work is created and performed by Iona Kewney, Lotta Sandborgh, Cola Ho Los Yee, Paola Taddeo, Adrian Thömmes, Hakim Abdou Mlanao and Babette Verbeek, drawing on international perspectives from Italy, Belgium, Hong Kong, Germany, Sweden and France.
  • The Mexico presentation is produced by Moves/Eyeberg with Eleno Guzmán Gutiérrez representing Última Vez, with institutional support from the national dance and theatre coordinations.
  • The soundtrack by Belgian composer Arthur Brouns blends themes by Lander Gyselinck with elements of New York jazz, while Vandekeybus prepares a Carmen for Opera Ballet Vlaanderen and a 40th‑anniversary creation.
