Wiltshire Police Seize Dog From Overheated Car in Swindon

The rescued dog is now in kennels receiving care pending its owner’s interview under Section 4 of the Animal Welfare Act.

  • Officers responded to a report at 8:30 am on July 9 of a large dog in distress inside a vehicle on Stirling Road, South Marston.
  • PC Paul Croft confirmed the animal was removed from the car and taken to kennels for veterinary assessment and welfare support.
  • The owner has been invited for a Section 4 interview under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering.
  • Wiltshire Police and the RSPCA warn that interior car temperatures can far exceed outside readings and pose life-threatening risks to pets.
  • Members of the public are urged to call 999 if they see a dog in distress in a hot car and to use precautions such as the five-second pavement test.
