Overview
- Four people were seen entering the abandoned mine off Frome Road in Bradford on Avon at about 5:30pm on Wednesday, with smoke reported around 7pm.
- A national specialist mines rescue team conducted a full underground search, declaring the tunnels empty shortly after 4am on Thursday.
- No injuries were reported after the smoke-filled mine was cleared following a multi-agency response.
- Firefighters extinguished the blaze with one hose reel jet and used gas monitors and thermal imaging, supported by police, ambulance crews and HART.
- Wiltshire Police are pursuing enquiries to identify the four entrants and have warned that disused underground sites pose severe risks.
