Wiltshire Mine Search Ends With No Casualties After Overnight Operation

  • A national specialist mines rescue team conducted a full underground search, declaring the tunnels empty shortly after 4am on Thursday.
  • No injuries were reported after the smoke-filled mine was cleared following a multi-agency response.
  • Firefighters extinguished the blaze with one hose reel jet and used gas monitors and thermal imaging, supported by police, ambulance crews and HART.
  • Wiltshire Police are pursuing enquiries to identify the four entrants and have warned that disused underground sites pose severe risks.
