William Livingston Held in Jail on Aggravated Battery Charges in Random Loop Assault

Pretrial detention follows aggravated battery charges in the Aug. 19 attack that left Kathleen Miles with severe facial injuries.

Overview

  • Police and prosecutors say 56-year-old Kathleen Miles was knocked unconscious on Aug. 19 in the 200 block of West Washington and suffered multiple facial fractures and a concussion.
  • Prosecutors charged 32-year-old William Livingston with three counts of aggravated battery, and Judge Rivanda Doss Beal ordered him held in the county jail pending proceedings; his next court date is Sept. 15 at the Skokie Courthouse.
  • The Cook County State's Attorney's Office said it evaluates evidence in each case and seeks pretrial detention for dangerous individuals, which it says occurred here.
  • Records show Livingston has a yearslong pattern of similar attacks, including a 2022 case that drew a five-year sentence for punching multiple women in the Loop and a 100-day sentence in 2024 after striking a 15-year-old on North Michigan Avenue.
  • Public records detail repeated releases while on parole, including an IDOC release on Jan. 26, 2024, and a 2023 arrest on North Michigan Avenue; a passerby identified as State Senator Willie Preston aided Miles at the scene.
