William Livingston Charged in Two More Random Attacks on Women in Chicago

The new charges intensify scrutiny of how authorities have handled repeat street assaults by men with long arrest histories.

Overview

  • Police linked Livingston, 32, to two June 12 attacks in the 2700 block of North Clark Street and charged him with two counts of aggravated battery in a public place.
  • He was arrested Wednesday with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force and appeared in court Thursday for a detention hearing.
  • Livingston remains jailed awaiting trial in an Aug. 19 Loop case in which Kathleen Miles was knocked unconscious and suffered facial fractures and a severe concussion.
  • Surveillance video of the August assault was released after a freedom-of-information request and pressure from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
  • Separately, Derek Rucker was sentenced to seven years in prison for unrelated random attacks on women, signaling tougher consequences in similar cases.
