Will Rogers State Historic Park Reopens With Limited Access 10 Months After Palisades Fire

Officials call the partial reopening a first step toward years of restoration and rebuilding.

Overview

  • The park reopened Saturday with daily hours from 8 a.m. to sunset.
  • 4.2 miles of trails are open and 4.8 miles remain closed, with the Backbone and Rivas Canyon trails shut and the Inspiration Loop partly open.
  • The polo field, main lawn and picnic areas are available again, with youth soccer and lacrosse set to resume matches.
  • The fire affected 99.5% of the park, destroyed the Ranch House and stables, and led to the loss of hundreds of trees.
  • Recovery efforts included an Army Corps debris site handling material from over 4,400 lots and more than 10,000 felled trees, while about 150 rescued artifacts were moved to state museum storage and multi-year rebuilding is planned.
