Overview

  • Over 1,700 residents were evacuated from villages northeast of Bursa after wildfires threatened the city’s suburbs and forced closure of the Bursa–Ankara highway.
  • Hundreds of residents were removed from Antalya’s city center and Aksu district as new fires broke out near residential and tourist areas.
  • President Erdogan reported that 25,000 personnel supported by 27 planes, 105 helicopters and 6,000 ground vehicles are deployed to contain blazes along the Mediterranean coast and western provinces.
  • Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said prosecutors have investigated fires in 33 provinces since June 26, taking legal action against 97 suspects for suspected arson.
  • Thirteen people have died in recent weeks, including 10 volunteers killed in Eskisehir, and 311 homes have been destroyed or seriously damaged with 85 temporary housing units established for displaced families.
