  • Ten villages in the Valdeón valley have been evacuated, Picos de Europa trails and mountain refuges closed, and the Camino de Santiago route suspended.
  • At least four people, including a firefighter killed when his fire truck overturned on August 17, have died in the emergency.
  • Roughly 3,500 UME troops are deployed with another 500 on the way as shifting winds and thick smoke hinder aerial operations.
