Wigan Town-Centre Fire Contained to One Building Overnight

Investigators are now assessing the cause.

Overview

  • Firefighters were called shortly before 10:30pm on Saturday to a commercial building on King Street in Wigan.
  • GMFRS deployed six engines and specialist units, including an aerial ladder platform, an enhanced rescue unit, a command unit and a drone.
  • The blaze was extinguished and contained to the single structure, with no injuries reported and the building empty.
  • King Street remained closed on Sunday morning as crews stayed on scene and the public were urged to avoid the area.
  • Nearby Reef Bar and Terrace evacuated as a precaution, and the site was reported to be the former Jak's nightclub without official confirmation.
