Wife, Ex-Marine Lover and Veteran on Trial Over Alleged Plot to Kill Husband in Caravan Raid

Prosecutors say explicit messages with a forged suicide note show a planned attack.

Overview

  • Opening statements at Swansea Crown Court set out the case, with jurors told the trial is expected to last about three weeks.
  • Prosecutors described a September 20, 2024 incident in which two masked men with imitation guns forced their way into a Cenarth caravan before Christopher Mills fought them off.
  • Police arrested Geraint Berry and Steven Thomas nearby after a helicopter search, recovering rucksacks containing gas masks, cable ties, tools and a purported suicide note addressed to Michelle Mills.
  • Jonathan Rees KC said Berry and Michelle Mills exchanged messages discussing ways to kill Christopher Mills and that she messaged Berry after the raid to delete contacts from their phones.
  • The Crown pointed to a £124,000 life-insurance policy naming Michelle Mills as sole beneficiary as a possible motive, while all three deny conspiracy to murder and Berry and Thomas have pleaded guilty only to possessing imitation firearms; Michelle Mills also denies attempting to pervert the course of justice.
