Widow Testifies as Bodycam Played in Fake DTE Murder Trials

The simultaneous trials before separate juries center on claims the home invasion was a targeted, preplanned attack tied to the victim’s jewelry business.

Overview

  • Carlos Jose Hernandez, 37, and Joshua Zuazo, 39, are being tried in Oakland County on felony murder and unlawful imprisonment charges in the Oct. 11, 2024 killing of Hussein “Sam” Murray.
  • Jurors saw body-worn camera video showing Linda Murray with her wrists taped as officers arrived, with audio later capturing police discovering her husband in the basement.
  • Linda Murray testified the men posed as DTE workers checking a gas leak, returned the next morning, and after going downstairs with her husband she saw blood on a vest, was struck, bound with duct tape, and had items taken from the home.
  • Prosecutors presented Ring footage, receipts, surveillance and witness accounts to argue months of planning that included a stolen work truck and purchases of tape and safety gear, while defense attorneys disputed intent to kill and identification.
  • Both cases are proceeding at once with separate juries before Judge Yasmin Poles, the defendants remain in custody, and prosecutors say they will seek life without parole if either man is convicted.
