WHO Reports Severe Rehabilitation Crisis in Gaza

At least 22,500 Gazans have life-changing injuries amid a decimated health system, requiring urgent and long-term medical care.

  • A WHO analysis estimates that a quarter of the injured in Gaza, around 22,500 people, need extensive rehabilitation services due to severe injuries.
  • Severe limb injuries, including up to 4,050 amputations, are the primary driver of the rehabilitation needs.
  • The health system in Gaza is severely compromised, with only 17 out of 36 hospitals partially functional and essential services frequently disrupted.
  • The WHO has conducted the largest medical evacuation from Gaza since October 2023, transferring 97 patients to the UAE for specialized care.
  • There is an urgent need for immediate and sustained support to address the overwhelming rehabilitation needs and restore essential health services in Gaza.
