Overview
- WHO said on Oct. 23 it led the transfer of 41 critically ill people and 145 companions from Gaza.
- Roughly 15,000–15,600 people remain on the waiting list for evacuation, including about 3,800 children, according to WHO.
- Since the war began, more than 7,000 patients have been evacuated, with Egypt receiving over half of them.
- Evacuations slowed sharply after Israel seized the Rafah crossing in May 2024 and fell to fewer than four patients per day following the collapse of a ceasefire in March.
- Medical groups and Palestinian health authorities report hundreds dying while waiting, including 740 people since July 2024, while Israel’s COGAT says all transfers require security checks that aid groups say add delays.
