WHL Suspends Hurricanes GM and Fines Two Clubs as Broncos Coach DeSilva Resigns

The league acted on Respect Line tips, ordering remedial education with enhanced monitoring.

Overview

  • Swift Current’s Dean DeSilva received a five-game suspension and the Broncos were fined $10,000 for two on-ice incidents on Oct. 24 and Oct. 27, and the club has since accepted his resignation.
  • Lethbridge GM Peter Anholt is suspended through Nov. 25 and the Hurricanes were fined $10,000 after an Oct. 29 dressing-room address that used intimidating behaviour and language following an 8-6 loss to Edmonton.
  • Assistant coach Regan Darby will continue leading the Broncos on an interim basis, while Hurricanes senior adviser Barclay Parneta is covering Anholt’s duties.
  • Both cases originated from anonymous reports to the WHL’s 1-800 Respect Line, which allows confidential reporting of conduct concerns.
  • Discipline includes supplementary education, added support, enhanced monitoring and preventative measures to prevent a recurrence of similar conduct.
