Overview
- The White Sox completed the trade for outfielder Tommy Pham on Monday, Aug. 31 and formally added him to the active roster when MLB rosters expanded on Sept. 1.
- Chicago sent cash considerations to the Phillies and cleared 40-man space by designating left-hander Tyler Gilbert for assignment to make room for Pham.
- Manager Will Venable said Pham will be used as a right-handed platoon and bench bat against left-handed pitching and that his veteran presence should help the clubhouse.
- Pham is a 13-year major-league veteran who spent much of 2026 in the minors after short stints with the Mets and Orioles and hit .250 with three homers in 44 Triple-A games for Lehigh Valley.
- Because the trade was finished before the Sept. 1 roster deadline, Pham is eligible for postseason play and his arrival — joined the same day by Jake Cave — gives the Sox more late-game lineup options as they chase the AL Central.
