- Miguel Vargas was injured Thursday on a bang-bang play at first when Aaron Judge reached the bag as an off-line throw arrived, and it appeared Judge’s left leg struck Vargas’ glove hand.
- Manager Will Venable said there was no break or fracture and that Vargas will rehab over the next few days with hopes he can be ready soon after the 10 days.
- The White Sox recalled rookie first baseman Tim Elko from Triple-A Charlotte to fill the roster spot; he is hitting .292 with 24 homers in the minors after batting .145 with four homers in 20 MLB games this year.
- Vargas, 25, leads Chicago with 445 at-bats and is hitting .234 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs in 121 games; he hit his first career grand slam earlier in the game in which he was injured.
- The infielder was reinstated from a left oblique issue on Aug. 12 and exited Thursday’s game in the fifth inning after his glove came off and he crumpled in pain.
