White Sox Place Andrew Benintendi on IL With Achilles Tendinitis as Corey Julks Joins From Triple-A

Benintendi says the Achilles issue has lingered since before the All-Star break, making even jogging painful.

  • Chicago placed Benintendi on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Sept. 21 for left Achilles tendinitis.
  • He did not start the club’s last four home games and said the pain dates back to early July, with manager Will Venable noting he was largely limited to hitting.
  • The 31-year-old is batting .240 with 20 home runs and 63 RBIs in 116 games and has two years remaining on his five-year, $75 million contract.
  • Benintendi previously missed time this season with a left adductor strain in April and a left calf strain that sidelined him for nearly three weeks in May.
  • To fill the roster spot, the White Sox selected Corey Julks from Triple-A Charlotte, where he hit .300/.374/.477 with 15 homers and 18 steals; he was DFA’d Aug. 12, outrighted Aug. 14, and passed through waivers twice, with no additional 40-man move required.
