Overview
- Hichem Miraoui, a 46-year-old Tunisian man, was fatally shot on May 31 around 10 p.m. by his 53-year-old French neighbor Christophe B. in Puget-sur-Argens.
- On June 5, the French National Anti-Terror Prosecutor’s Office charged Christophe B. with terrorist murder, citing racist motivation and his prior publication of racist videos.
- About 1,600 people marched in Puget-sur-Argens and around 450 in Marseille on June 8 in silent white marches to honor Miraoui and demand accountability.
- Organizers and participants stressed the events were nonpartisan and apolitical, observing moments of silence and carrying banners reading “Justice for Hichem.”
- Family members and their lawyer, Sefen Guez Guez, said the killing reflects a rise in hate-fuelled violence driven by political rhetoric and called for stronger measures against racism.
