White House Sets Oct. 30 Halloween Event Led by Melania and President Trump

The White House signals continuity of public holiday events despite current disruptions.

Overview

  • The South Lawn will open to trick-or-treaters on Oct. 30 from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. for ticketholders including military, law enforcement, foster and adoptive families, and administration officials with children.
  • President Trump and the first lady will greet guests on the South Drive and distribute commemorative candy during part of the evening, with music by the U.S. Air Force Strolling Strings.
  • Programming and treats will be provided by partners including the U.S. Postal Service (toy mail trucks and a BE BEST postcard station), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (giant pumpkin and mini pumpkins), the International Fresh Produce Association (apples), and the National Confectioners Association (sweets), with additional participation by NASA, the National Park Service, the U.S. Mint, the U.S. Secret Service, America 250, the White House Historical Association, and COSI.
  • The Secret Service outlines prohibited items, permits strollers, wheelchairs, umbrellas without metal tips, and cameras, and allows necessary medical devices and supplies.
  • HELLO! reports the event is not directly affected by the government shutdown, and a White House official says traditions will continue during renovations, with the National Christmas Tree Lighting set for Dec. 4 and a free ticket lottery running Oct. 29–Nov. 5.
