White House Offers GOP Access to Unredacted Jan. 6 Transcripts

Rep. Barry Loudermilk to review documents under condition of witness anonymity, amidst ongoing Republican-led investigation into the January 6 committee.

  • The White House has offered GOP Rep. Barry Loudermilk access to unredacted transcripts from the House January 6 committee’s interviews, with the condition that he protects the anonymity of the four witnesses mentioned in the committee's final report.
  • Loudermilk, who is leading the Republican investigation into the work of the former January 6 select committee, had requested the unredacted transcripts, claiming the redacted versions excluded key details.
  • The White House's offer comes as House Republicans, including Loudermilk, have sought to discredit the January 6 committee’s investigation and related criminal cases against former President Donald Trump.
  • Loudermilk has also requested unredacted transcripts from the Department of Homeland Security and accused the former chair of the January 6 committee, Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, of improperly archiving work.
  • Thompson has defended his panel’s archival process and dismissed Loudermilk's accusations as false.
