White House Launches New Office of Pandemic Preparedness Led by Retired General

  • The White House has established a new Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy.
  • Retired Air Force Major General Dr. Paul Friedrichs was selected to lead the office starting August 7.
  • The office will coordinate efforts to prepare for and respond to biological threats that could cause a pandemic.
  • It will take over duties from the administration's COVID-19 and monkeypox response teams.
  • The office will provide Congress with preparedness reports every five years.
