Overview

  • University of Buckingham analysis projects the white British share of the population will decline from 73% today to 57% by 2050, drop below half by 2063 and fall to 33.7% by 2100.
  • Department of Education figures show white British pupils are now outnumbered by ethnic minorities or white non-British students in one in four state schools in England, with 72 schools recording no white British pupils.
  • Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has ordered an independent inquiry into white working-class educational outcomes after warning that the group has been ‘left behind in society’.
  • Reform UK has gained momentum by highlighting demographic projections, winning 26.1% support in the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election and positioning itself as a voice on immigration policy.
  • Commentators caution that the study’s definition of ‘white British’ excludes individuals with one immigrant parent and risks inflaming cultural identity debates and calls for stricter migration controls.
