Overview
- Whitbread confirmed on Monday that every one of its 106 Beefeater sites will shut on Thursday 10 September 2026 and that the Beefeater loyalty scheme will end on 31 August 2026.
- The Brewers Fayre brand is also being wound down but Whitbread has not published a national closure date for those sites.
- The company says the restructure, which is subject to staff consultation, puts about 3,800 roles at risk while it aims to redeploy as many affected employees as possible.
- Under the five-year plan Whitbread intends to convert some restaurant sites into extra Premier Inn rooms, sell roughly £1.5 billion of freehold property, and target about £250 million in cost savings.
- Local communities have named specific affected sites in Wiltshire, Hertfordshire and around London and the key near-term questions are which locations will be converted into hotel rooms and which will be sold.
