Devices that fall below WhatsApp’s requirements will stop receiving technical support and security updates starting September 1, 2025, though the installed app may continue to run for a time. WhatsApp’s minimum supported systems are Android 5.0 or later, iOS 12 or later, and KaiOS 2.5.0 or later, including JioPhone models. Impacted models include Apple’s iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus and first‑gen SE; Samsung’s Galaxy S3, S4 Mini, Note 2, Core and Trend; plus select Motorola, LG, Huawei, Sony and HTC phones. Meta cites the need to maintain advanced end‑to‑end encryption, multi‑device sync and other modern capabilities as the reason for dropping very old software versions. Users are advised to back up chats, migrate to a compatible device, or use WhatsApp Web temporarily, and Meta notes most users already meet the current requirements.
