Overview

  • Starting June 1, WhatsApp will no longer work on Apple iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus or any phone running Android 5.0 or earlier.
  • Supported devices must run iOS 15.1 or later on iPhone and Android 5.1 or newer on Android to continue accessing WhatsApp.
  • Meta postponed the original May 5 cutoff to June 1 as part of its annual maintenance cycle to give users more time to upgrade.
  • The update aims to improve performance and security by focusing support on devices that receive current operating-system patches.
  • WhatsApp recommends backing up chat histories to iCloud or Google Drive before the support withdrawal to ensure conversations can be restored on new devices.
