Meta is piloting the opt-in tool using its Private Processing system to restrict analysis to the draft message.

Overview

  • The tool is available in the latest iOS TestFlight build for selected users, showing a pen icon in place of the sticker button after text is typed when Private Processing is enabled.
  • Tapping the icon produces at least three alternative phrasings across five tones: Rephrase, Professional, Funny, Supportive, and Proofread.
  • Users can keep their original text or insert a suggestion, and recipients are not notified when AI assistance is used.
  • Meta says the assistant is opt-in, disabled by default, and runs under its Private Processing system with encrypted, anonymous, message-only processing that does not scan conversation history or store data.
  • WhatsApp has not announced a timetable for a broader release beyond the beta program.
