WhatsApp Tests Two-Account Support on iPhone in TestFlight Beta

The limited TestFlight build focuses on secure, separate account management for early testers.

Overview

  • The iOS beta lets some users add and switch between two accounts via a new Account List in Settings or a button near the QR icon.
  • Users can add a new number, restore an existing WhatsApp or Business account, or link a companion account by scanning a QR code with automatic sync of chats and settings.
  • Each profile keeps separate chat history, backups, notifications, and privacy controls, and alerts identify which account received a message, including on inactive profiles.
  • Account switching can be done from the Account List or with press-and-hold and double-tap shortcuts on the Settings tab, and App Lock can require Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode.
  • Availability is limited to TestFlight testers with no announced rollout date, and the work aligns with ongoing experiments such as introducing usernames.
