WhatsApp Tests Native Live Photos on iOS With Motion and Sound

A limited TestFlight beta enables cross-platform playback by converting Live Photos both ways with Android Motion Photos.

Overview

  • Version 25.24.10.72 for iOS is rolling out to a small group of TestFlight users, with some reports of early access on the stable App Store build.
  • Live Photos now send in original quality with motion and audio, instead of being downgraded to static images or silent, lower-quality GIFs.
  • Senders can choose to share a Live Photo as a moving image or as a still, with toggles in the gallery picker and the editing screen.
  • Recipients can save the media to the iOS Photos app in the original Live Photo format, preserving motion and sound.
  • WABetaInfo also published screenshots indicating WhatsApp is preparing the iOS 26Liquid Glass’ look, though that design change is still in development.
