• WhatsApp’s iOS beta (v25.29.10.71) adds Auto-Download Quality under Settings → Storage & Data with choices for Standard or HD.
• When an HD photo is sent, the app generates compressed and high-resolution versions; recipients auto-download per their setting and can tap to fetch HD later.
• WhatsApp says compression and selection occur on-device with end-to-end encryption maintained.
• The feature is being enabled for more testers now, with a wider rollout expected in the coming weeks according to WABetaInfo.
