Overview
- WhatsApp is testing a redesigned contextual menu in its Android beta that shows a popup of actions next to a selected message instead of the current top-of-screen app bar.
- The beta change is reported in version 2.26.23.8 and is available only to a subset of Android beta testers distributed through Google Play.
- Common actions such as reply, forward, copy, paste, delete, info and pin are surfaced in the first-level popup while less-used features like favorite, translate and verify security code are grouped under a secondary “More” menu.
- The layout mirrors how iPhone users already see message-specific commands and is intended to reduce thumb movement and make message actions faster to access for daily users.
- Meta announced this redesign in 2023 and is taking a cautious, step-by-step approach to wider release with no firm public date yet given.
