WhatsApp Tests Built‑In Message Scheduling for iPhone Chats and Groups

It would let users schedule messages for later delivery, manage or delete pending messages without notifying recipients, limit delivery to group members present at scheduling.

Overview

  • WhatsApp is actively developing a native scheduled‑messages feature for iPhone and recent pre‑release builds show the functionality but it is not yet available to beta or public users.
  • The scheduling tool appears to be accessed by holding the send button and the app will show scheduled items in a dedicated management section inside the app.
  • Users can view and delete pending messages before they send, and deleting a pending message will not notify recipients.
  • Scheduled messages will work in group chats but will only be delivered to members who were part of the group when the message was scheduled.
  • Current development enforces a delivery window that starts about 10 minutes after creation and goes up to two weeks, the feature builds on prior workarounds like Shortcuts and is expected to reach beta testers before a wider rollout.
