Overview
- Beta‑build analysis by WABetaInfo, reported by multiple outlets on Wednesday, Sept. 30, shows WhatsApp code for new birthday features but no public release yet.
- The traces include a new Contacts tab that would mark today’s birthdays with a cake emoji and the label “Birthday today.”
- Contact profiles in the beta traces show a dedicated, prominently placed birthdate field that would be visible at all times in a contact’s profile.
- Earlier Android beta hints from July and the recent iOS traces point to an upcoming‑birthdays overview and in‑app notifications to remind users when birthdays are near.
- The features would import dates from phone address books so they depend on local contact data and permissions; Android users can already sync birthdays to Google Calendar as an alternative.
