Overview
- WhatsApp announced the four group-chat features Thursday and has begun a gradual rollout to Android and iOS users, with more accounts receiving them over the coming weeks.
- Users can now pin messages in group chats indefinitely so important information stays at the top until someone removes it.
- Admins and members can retroactively share recent chat history with someone who already joined a group by tapping their name, and WhatsApp says those shared messages remain end-to-end encrypted.
- A new Mentions and Replies filter shows only unread group conversations where a user was mentioned or directly replied to, including @all notices, and the filter can be moved out of the main list if users prefer.
- Group Status lets members post ephemeral updates visible only to a specific group for 24 hours, and the changes build on WhatsApp’s multi-stage beta testing approach that aims to make large groups easier to manage and follow.
