WhatsApp Lets Nonusers Join Calls via Browser Link

The rollout keeps calls end-to-end encrypted, preserves host controls, paving the way for calendar plugins later this year.

Overview

  • WhatsApp launched guest calling on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, and has begun a gradual rollout to users on the latest Android and iOS app versions.
  • Anyone with a shared call link can join from a desktop browser by typing a name and waiting in a host-controlled waiting room for approval.
  • Calls remain free, end-to-end encrypted, have no time limits, and support one-on-one or group calls with up to 32 participants.
  • Guests can share their screen, raise a hand, and use emoji reactions but cannot see other participants’ phone numbers, send messages, or add people to the call.
  • WhatsApp says calendar integrations for Google Calendar and Outlook will arrive later this year via a plugin, and the change follows prior tests and mirrors link-based joining used by other services.
