Overview
- As of July 28, WhatsApp’s recycle bin is available on Android and iOS under Settings > Storage and Data > Manage Storage.
- Deleted photos, videos, documents and voice notes remain in the recycle bin until users restore them or choose to empty the folder.
- Emptying the recycle bin permanently deletes selected items and frees up device storage by removing unwanted media.
- Users can disable automatic media downloads, enable disappearing messages and clear the app cache to curb ongoing storage growth.
- Before cleaning storage, users are advised to back up chats via Google Drive or iCloud to safeguard important content.
