WhatsApp Launches ‘Help to Write’ AI Assistant for Chat Messages

Meta says the opt-in tool preserves end-to-end encryption through its Private Processing architecture.

Overview

  • The feature offers rewrite suggestions, grammar corrections, and tone options such as professional, humorous, supportive, clear, or correction-focused.
  • A pencil icon in the message composer invokes Meta AI, which returns at least three alternative phrasings for users to select.
  • Initial availability is in English for the United States and select countries, with broader language and regional expansion planned later in 2025.
  • The tool is disabled by default and must be turned on in settings, works in individual and group chats, and recipients do not see an AI-edited label.
  • Meta says processing uses its Private Processing system without storing conversation history and cites audits by NCC Group and Trail of Bits.
